Re: PE to get meals?
Now that would be good news indeed!
Virgin Blue would then (for a lesser cost than the QF full flex) be bale to say
- better seat / legroom
- better catering choice (ie in QF Y on SYD-MEL you may not get a choice)
- better IFE
- more FF points (ie $399 SYD-MEL would be about 2,000 for a base member, 1000 with QF0
- Lounge Access
Now that would be a winner IMHO. Just need an effective ad campaign to make sure people are aware of it.
Whilst someone may have been listening,I think think the fact that punters have so far voted with their wallet and avoided DJs PY product has forced their hand here.
The interesting thing is DJ operate like all LCCs on a cost recovery model ie you pay for every ancillary item like baggage etc, will they be forced to roll the cost of Food/Drinks& paper into the current fare or will they add another $15-20 to the price to recover the cost
Time will tell.
I think perhaps the 1% load factor in DJ's PE may have helped give them a nudge as well
But it is a good development, hopefully they can just communicate it SIMPLY and effectively for once instead of the rubbish confusing advertising they have had for DJ and V Australia recently.
Hope they don't put the price up even more.... its still v expensive.

Expensive is a relative term. In the short term, competitive influences, demand and corporate failures will drive prices up and down. But is $4k for a RTW whY ticket to Europe / US that expensive for the service and the relative convenience?
Over the longer term, i see the prices rising quite dramatically - as supply will not keep up with demand [nearly at effective capacity in many markets now - building new airports is not viable] and technology will become more expensive to manage efficiency / safety / environmental footprints.

This discussion concerns DJ PY Domestic product changes rumoured
not INT
I am told that PE guests will basically get unlimited food and drinks (incl alcohol) of the service cart at thier request, and probably hot meals on the longer Per and Drw sectors.
it will be a quiet, soft launch but a new ad campaign will begin in early 2009
